Prog Rocker of the Week is my latest and most ambitious topical news commentary project. Stepping in the footsteps of Communist of the Week and the popular cult project Bird of the Week, Prog Rocker of the Week asks a different Prog Rocker every week for their opinion on a current news story. Prog Rocker of the Week is especially exciting because each news story is accompanied by an original Prog Rock recording!
Prog Rocker of the Week is a collaboration between Mjohnson and Wesley Threewheel. This week's Prog Rocker is Robert Fripp (an enlarged version of the poster is available by clicking on it, or clicking on the Flickr badge in the side bar):
The text reads:
Guitarist and composer Robert Fripp is best known for his work with the band King Crimson. King Crimson broke up for the first time shortly after the release of their first and most successful album In The Court of The Crimson King. Since then they have split and reformed more times than a lump of play-dough. Throughout Robert Fripp has been the band's only consistent member. Staying in your own band for this long is quite a feat of diplomacy, so we thought Robert ideally placed to comment on the current situation in the Gaza Strip.
Wow, Palestine, Israel. Sometimes right and wrong are easy to differentiate, like the time King Crimson broke up in 1982, but this one is complicated it's analogue not clear like digital. I don't think that even The Court of King Crimson could judge this. The cycle of violence just keeps on, like a tape on a loop. A bit like Flippertronics, that's using a dual reel to reel Revox machine to create a delay effect. I developed this technique in 1975 to great critical acclaim. I'm a musician, I don't do sound bites, so I've become a sound journalist and this is my column."
